President's Message
Copied from the Winter 2011/2012 Issue of the New Mexico Gardener.

Fall is absolutely the busiest time of year; however, I feel that we are off to a great start. Isabel and I had a fine time and learning experience in St. Louis at the National fall board meeting. She was able to meet our National President, Shirley Nicolai, and several other officers that she will be serving under. It is wonderful to be able to dine with these individuals and put a face with a name. We were proud to be there representing the state of New Mexico.

Our fall board held at the Courtyard Marriott was again a success. My wish is that more members could attend. It is a time for knowledge and friendship that is shared throughout the state. Esther Russell did a wonderful program on recycled products with the help of Joanne Case and Maxine Harrington. Everyone had fun and there was a lot of laughter in the room. I hope that the hand made products will be shared with your club and passed on as gifts to others. Suzy had a power point presentation on the awards. The majority of which will be sent in via e-mail. If you do not have a computer please ask another club member to help you in your submissions. National and Regional have now made it mandatory to submit applications in this manner. As is usually the case, the decision to change was due to expense. All Directors and Executive Board members have a CD that was constructed by SuzyAndrego. She is available for any questions that you may have.

Christine Longthorpe and Suzy Andrego had a great program on leaf manipulation at the judges' council dinner. There are still books available at $40.00 each if you did not get one.

We just completed another judges symposium at the Albuquerque Garden Center with Julia Clevett an Dottie Howatt as our instructors. They have been teaching for several years and have a unique method that keeps the students very involved. The symposium was very well attended. Betty Heisler and Debi Harrington played a major role and were outstanding. Christine Longthorpe was fabulous to work with as our new state symposium chair. We now have our new team in place and functioning ? Barbara Vance, Credentials, Christine Longthorpe, Symposium and Mary Ann Moreno, Flower Show Schools. Please help them in
any way you can to make their jobs easier.

How exciting is it that on 11/11/11, Socorro will dedicate the next Blue Star Memorial marker for the state of New Mexico. This is a fantastic way to honor all of our veterans. It will be on the Plaza at 11:00 a.m. and you can contact SusanMiller, District IV Director if you have any questions.

Enjoy the holidays.
